The Old and New Testaments: Understanding Tithes and Offerings

* From historical past till now, God relates with men through the Law or what we might call Covenants.

* Each Covenant stipulate what God expects of all men; and His promises to them.

* God began with the first Covenant, which started from book of Genesis to the book of Malachi.

* Due to the weakness and unprofitableness of the first Covenant; God instituted a new Covenant.

* The new Covenant was not meant to be accumulated with the old; but to replace it.

* However, religion does not want the old Covenant to be replaced; hence, it joined the two Covenants.

* In reality, no man can accurately (correctly) fulfill the two Covenants.

* The first Covenant rest on the ordinances of sacrifices and offerings; while the new Covenant rests on the ordinances of love and faith.

* In the first Covenant, people offer sacrifices and offerings to appease or please God; but in the new Covenant, people love and believe God to please Him.

* By the first Covenant, it s more of what you do; but in the new Covenant, it is all about who you are.

*In the first Covenant, the people require the priests to tell them the will of God and talk to God for them; in the new Covenant, the people are led by the Holy Spirit.

* In the first Covenant, God's presence was among the people; but in the new Covenant, God's presence is in the people.

* In the first Covenant, God's presence was yearly accessible for the priests  that represent the people; but in the new Covenant, the presence of God is in each believer (person).

* In the first Covenant, people were mandated to give a tenth of all their spoils; but in the new Covenant, people do not consider what they have as their own.

* In the first Covenant, feasts and sacrifices were yearly and quarterly; in the new Covenant, fellowship is daily.

* In the first Covenant, people believed Go for what they want from Him; in the new Covenant, people believe God to live.

* In the first Covenant, only the Levites were priests; but in the new Covenant, all believers are priests. Hence, each believer is qualified to share in your increase.

* In the first Covenant, people gave by the Law; but in the new Covenant, people give by grace.

Offering is from the word 'offer'. To offer is to give or present something of value or worth or substance to somebody. In the first Covenant, people offered their belongings to God at intervals - yearly or seasonally. But in the new Covenant, people offer themselves to God perpetually. Romans 12:1. And Apostle said, "I die daily!"......"always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifold in our body."......"Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day."
